The new season will follow the love story of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Penelope has been in love with Colin for years, but he has never seen her as anything more than a friend. However, after Penelope's secret identity as Lady Whistledown is revealed, Colin finally starts to see her in a new light.

The new season will also feature a number of new characters, including Penelope's cousin, Gareth St. Clair (Freddie Thorp), and Colin's new love interest, Marina Thompson (Hannah Dodd).
