BBC pundit Alan Shearer has been lauded for his "rigour and bravery" after standing up to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's rant over fixture scheduling. Guardiola had complained about the congested match schedule, but Shearer retorted that he could have opted to field a different team.
Shearer's Retort
"He [Guardiola] could have played a different team," Shearer said. "He's got a big squad. He's got the resources to do that. I don't think it's right to come out and moan about it [the fixture list]."
Guardiola's Tirade
Guardiola had earlier criticized the Premier League for not giving Manchester City sufficient rest following their Champions League match. He had suggested that the league was favoring certain clubs.
Shearer's Measured Response
In contrast to Guardiola's outburst, Shearer maintained a measured approach. He acknowledged the challenges of the fixture list but stressed that it was the same for all teams.
